Nov 28 13.8 At Passover, Pilate customarily released any one prisoner the people wanted. One named Barabbas had been imprisoned with a band which had committed murder during a riot. The crowd came asking Pilate to make his usual prisoner release. Then Pilate summoned the chief priests, rulers and people and said, “You have charged this man with inciting a rebellion, but my examination of him in your presence reveals no basis for your charges.1 Neither has Herod found any, for he returned him to us. He has done nothing deserving death.2 I will flog him and release him.” As the crowd gathered, Pilate asked, “Which one shall I release, the notorious Barabbas, or Jesus who is called the Christ?” For he knew the Jewish leaders, because of envy, brought Jesus to him.
