Jul 31 9.5 When Jesus noticed guests vying for places of honor at the table, he told this parable: “When you are invited to wedding feasts, dont take the place of honor, for someone more honored may have been invited. Then the host will come to you, saying, Give this man your place. Then, ashamed, you must take the lowest place. First choose the lowest place and your host will say, Friend, take this higher place. Then youll be honored before all. Whoever exalts himself will be humbled; whoever humbles himself will be exalted.1

To the host Jesus said, “When you host a feast, dont invite friends, relatives or rich neighbors, for they may repay you by hosting you in return. Rather, invite the poor, the maim, the cripple and the blind. Youll be blessed, since they cant repay. You will be repaid at the resurrection of the righteous.”
