July 2 8.8 After this, the Lord appointed1 seventy others and sent them ahead in pairs to every city he was about to visit. He said, “The harvest2 is plentiful, but workers are few. Ask the Lord to send workers into His harvest. Go,3 I send you as lambs amidst wolves. Don’t carry a purse, a wallet or shoes. Any city or village you enter, inquire who in it is worthy and stay there, accepting their food and drink till you depart, for a worker deserves his wages. Any house you enter, say, ‘Peace to this house.’ If a son of peace is there, your peace will stay there, if not, it will return to you. Wherever you are welcome, eat whatever they give you. Heal4 their sick, saying, ‘God’s kingdom is near you.’ When a city doesn’t welcome you, go into the streets, saying, ‘Even your town’s dust on our feet we remove in protest, and know that God’s kingdom has been near you. In that day, God’s judgment will be more bearable for Sodom than for that town.”
Jul 3 “Woe!5 Chorazin and Bethsaida, if the miracles done in you were done in Tyre and Sidon, they would have repented since in mourning clothes, sitting in ashes. On the judgment day, it will be easier for Tyre and Sidon than for you. And you Capernaum, exalted to heaven, will be brought down to hell.
He who hears you, hears me. He who rejects6 you, rejects me and the One who sent me.”
Joyfully, the seventy returned, saying, “Even demons submit to us in your name.”
Jesus replied, “I watched Satan fall from heaven like lightning. See, I have given you authority7 to tread, without injury, over snakes and scorpions and all the enemy’s powers. But don’t rejoice that demons submit to you, but that your names are recorded in heaven.”
Jul 4 Then, rejoicing in the Holy Spirit, Jesus said, “Thank you Father, Lord of heaven and earth, for these things, hidden from the wise and learned, you revealed to babes, for so it pleased8 you. The Father has delivered all to me. Only the Father knows who the Son is, and only the Son and those to whom the Son chooses to reveal Him, know who the Father is.” Then privately, he said to the disciples, “Blessed9 are your eyes, for many prophets and kings have wanted to see and hear what you see and hear, but they didn’t.
