8.2 He Is The MESSIAH

8.2 Some from Jerusalem asked, “Isn’t this the man they want to kill? But he speaks boldly without opposition. Have the rulers known he truly is the Christ? But we know where this man is from, which no one will know about the Christ.”
Jun 14 “Yes, you know me and where I am from,” said Jesus in the temple, “I am not here on my own, but He who sent me is true1. You do not know Him, but I do because I am from Him.” They tried to arrest Jesus, but no one touched him, because his time had not yet come.2 Many more believed in him, saying, “When Christ comes, will he perform more miracles than this man?” On hearing this crowd’s opinion about him, Pharisees and chief priests sent officers to arrest Jesus.
Jesus said, “For a short time I’m with you, then I go to Him who sent me. You’ll seek me but you won’t find me, where I am you cannot come.”3 The religious populace asked themselves, “What does he mean by these latter statements, where is he going that we cannot find him? To our people scattered among the Greeks, or to teach the Greeks?”
Jun 15 On the last and greatest day of the feast, Jesus stood and called out, “Whoever thirsts, let him come to me and drink. Whoever believes in me, as the scripture has said, rivers of living water will flow from within him.” He referred to the Spirit whom believers were to receive. Then the Spirit had not been given, because Jesus had not yet been glorified. Some listeners said, “Truly, this is the Prophet.” Others said, “This is the Christ.” Some asked, “Is the Christ to come from Galilee? Doesn’t scripture say Christ will come from David’s family and his village, Bethlehem?”4
Jun 16 The crowd was divided, some wishing to arrest him, but no one touched him. The officers returned to the chief priests and Pharisees who asked, “Why didn’t you bring him?” They replied, “No man ever spoke like this man.” The Pharisees asked, “Have you too been deceived? Does any of us believe in him? No! This crowd, ignorant of the law, is cursed.”
Then Nicodemus,5 the Pharisee who once visited Jesus by night, said, “Does our law judge a man without a hearing?” They answered, “Are you also from Galilee? Search and see that no prophet comes from Galilee.” Then everyone went home.
