8.17 Parable of the Waiting Servants

July 19 8.17 Be ready and keep your lamps burning, like men awaiting their masters return from a wedding feast, so they may immediately open the door when he comes knocking. Blessed are those servants whom the master finds alert when he comes.1 He will prepare himself to serve them at the table. Any hour he comes, they are most fortunate if he finds them ready. If a houseowner knows when a thief is coming, he would prevent entry. So be ready, for the Son of man is coming at an unexpected hour.”
