Jul 9 8.12 Later, Jesus was expelling a dumb demon. When the demon left, the dumb man spoke, which amazed the crowd. Some said, “He expels demons by Beelzebubs power.1 Others wanted a heavenly sign.2 Knowing3 their thoughts, Jesus said, “Every divided kingdom comes to ruin, and a divided house falls. If Satans kingdom is divided, how will it stand? You say I expel demons by Beelzebub. If so, by whom do your sons expel them? So they will be your judges. But if I expel demons by Gods finger, then Gods kingdom”4 has reached you. When a well-armed strongman guards his palace, his possessions are safe. When someone stronger overpowers and disarms him, the stronger divides the spoils. Whoever is not with me is against me, and he who does not gather5 with me scatters souls.
