May 1 6.43 King Herod heard about this, for Jesus name had become famous. Some said, “John the Baptist is risen from the dead, hence mighty powers are working in him.” Others said, “He is Elijah.” Still others said, “He is a prophet like of old.” But when Herod heard, he said, “John, whom I beheaded, is risen!” For Herod had jailed John because of Herodias, his brother Philips wife, whom Herod had married. For John said, “Its unlawful for you to take your brothers wife.” Therefore, Herodias nursed a grudge, wanting to kill John. But she couldnt because Herod feared John, knowing him as righteous and holy. Herod protected and listened to him gladly at times, although with embarrassment.
