Apr 18 6.36 They crossed the sea to the opposite shore in the Garasenes countryside, where a demon-possessed man ran up to Jesus. The demoniac lived among tombs and, because of his fierceness, no one could tame or bind him for long, not even with chains and fetters, which he always broke. He went about night and day naked in the mountains and among tombs, crying and cutting himself with stones. He prostrated before Jesus and shouted, “What do you want with me, Jesus, Son of the Most High God?1 For Gods sake,2 dont torment me!” For Jesus was saying to him, “Come out, you unclean spirit!” Then Jesus asked, “What is your name?” He replied, “My name is Legion, for we are thousands.” And he begged Jesus not to send them out of the area. Nearby, a large herd of pigs was feeding. The demons begged Jesus, “Send us into the pigs.” Jesus granted this and the demons entered into the pigs.

Apr 19 The herd, about two thousand, rushed down the cliff, plunged into the sea and drowned. Their herdsmen ran off, reporting the incident to everyone in and out of town. The people came out to see what had happened. They came to Jesus and saw the former demoniac sitting, clothed and sane, and they were afraid. Eyewitnesses told them the whole story about the demoniac and the pigs. The people begged Jesus to leave their region. As Jesus boarded the boat, the former demoniac begged to go along. Jesus said, “No, go to your family and friends and tell what great things the Lord did for you, and about His mercy on you.” He obeyed and went into the ten towns (Decapolis) telling what Jesus had done for him, and all marveled.
