5.10 Forgave and Healed a Paralyzed Man

Feb 22 5.10 Some days later, he returned home to Capernaum. Pharisees and scholars from every village in Galilee through Judea and Jerusalem sat that no room remained, not even outside the door, and he preached the word to them and the Lord’s power was present with him to heal. Four men carried a paralytic to him, but were unable to penetrate the crowd. They removed some roof covering, made an opening and lowered the stretcher before Jesus. Seeing their faith, he said, “Cheer up, son, your sins are forgiven.”1
Certain scribes and Pharisees were thinking within themselves, “Why does he talk like this? He blasphemes! Who, but God, can forgive2 sins!”
Feb 23 Jesus, inwardly knowing3 their thoughts asked, “Why are you thinking such evil? Which is easier to tell the paralytic, ‘Your sins are forgiven,’ or, ‘Rise, take up your bed and walk?’4 To let you know that the Son of man has authority on earth to forgive sins, I say, ‘Rise! Take up your bed and go home.’”
Immediately he rose, took his bed and walked out before all. The amazed crowd praised God, saying, “We have never seen5 such!” They glorified God for giving such authority6 to men.
